"So Close Yet So Far", painting by Leslie Dunsmore |
ARTIST'S STATEMENT:
Leslie
has created art throughout her life. She has been a professional
artist for over 25 years. With numerous solo, group and invitational
shows over the years, her art can be found in private collections in
Canada, United States, England, France, Germany, New Zealand and
Australia.
She
often travels on solo artist journeys for extended periods of time.
Sketching and painting outdoors, Leslie captures images, composites,
and words. When the sketchbooks are full, she returns to her studio
to paint throughout the winter and spring.
Presently,
Leslie is working on a series about “mountains
in relationship to the grasslands, plateaus and ravines that reside
beneath them”.
For the past 3 years, she has explored the B.C. Coast Range, the
Selkirk & Purcell Mountains, and the Rocky Mountains (on the
Alberta side). Her images are constructs, caught between the lines
of reality. Each image is recognizable, but is never a reproduction
of an actual place. She slowly builds layers of acrylic paint onto
canvas - creating a poetic lay of the land. Every painting is full
of bright colour and crisp edges, producing rich, evocative and
mysterious landscapes.
Leslie's
island home and studio overlooks the ocean. It is surrounded by
forests, grasslands and wetlands, providing endless inspiration. A
short stroll up through her garden of lilies and poppies brings you
to a hand-built cozy home & studio, with a large deck-garden
overlooking the ocean. Visitors can roam freely throughout her home
and studio to see the many paintings.
