ARTIST'S STATEMENT:
Bentley
Le Baron lives in a forest of firs, cedar and maple by a stream,
within sound of the ocean. Ravens and eagles are his muses. For
thirty-five years his livelihood has been clay- functional pottery
and sculpture, stoneware and smoke-fired. He sculpts many kinds of
creatures: dragons, ravens, horses, bears, bulls, cats and more. Also
the human animal.
Since 2000, Bentley has been playing with painting,
acrylic on canvas. Again his subject matter includes animal and human
forms. Bentley's work has been sold in many galleries in BC, Alberta
and Ontario. In recent years it has been available mostly in his own
gallery on Denman Island.
Bentley has had shows in Toronto, Niagara
Falls, Vancouver, Victoria, Nanaimo, Qualicum Beach, Courtenay,
Comox, Campbell River and on Denman Island. He has taught and
given workshops in Ontario and BC including UBC, Malaspina and North
Island Colleges. Bentley also holds a Doctorate in Philosophy from
the University of London, England.
