CANCELLATION NOTICE:
Due to a broken shoulder, Cynthia Minden has reluctantly had to withdraw from this year's tour. It will be a couple of months before this artist will be able to work again, and she apologizes for any inconvenience to tour-goers who were looking forward to visiting her studio over the August weekend. Her community wishes her a full and speedy recovery!

ARTIST'S STATEMENT:
Cynthia
Minden has been working with vessel forms, discovered objects and
sculpture for the past 27 years. With a background in music and
in arts administration, Minden moved from Toronto to the west
coast in 1987 and turned her focus to visual art. She has
studied paper making and book arts, basketry and sculpture
through courses with renowned artists who work both in
traditional and contemporary forms.
Minden has several current
interests: woven forms, both figurative and vessels, mixed media
assemblages and installation art. Minden has taught at
guilds, symposiums and art centres, including Hollyhock Retreat
Centre, the Kootenay School of the Arts and Metchosin International
Summer School of the Arts. Her work has been shown regionally
at numerous galleries and internationally at SOFA Chicago, Fiberarts
International and Handweavers Guild of America exhibitions.
Recently,
Minden has turned her attention to weaving diminutive figurative
forms, some seated, some hanging from twisted branches like small
marionettes. Some figures are set in a context along with other
objects. Whimsical in nature, they are actually a marriage of her
interests in form, found objects and natural materials. Expect to see
these forms at her picturesque studio this year!
